Welcome to Crunchcon.
Crunchcon is a monthly creative competition (lovingly shortened to “compo”) with the goal of providing creatives a regular, quick, and reliable outlet for their passion. While current members are predominantly musicians, the compo is open to all creative methods including music, sound effects, art, illustration, animation, film, and creative writing. Participants are given a prompt or “theme” (ie. “Monster in the Observatory”, “Hallowed”) to which entries must adhere in whatever way seems appropriate for that medium.
In the beginning, Crunchcon took place over a 6 hour period upon the announcement of the theme to offer a feeling similar to “crunch time” without the career-ending stakes. With more international participants, however, the decision to extend it to 12 hours became appropriate without compromising the goal or the intended pace.
As a newer advent, every 3rd month (March, June, September, December) has become Crunchcon Macro: a 48-hour variation of Crunchcon with the same rules. While not everyone may get the same 12 hours during the regular monthly compo, Crunchcon Macro was created with the goal of coming closer to giving all participants the same amount of time.
Furthermore, April and August have become Crunchcon Quad and Crunchcon High Octane, respectively. Crunchcon Quad offers four (4) themes spread across four weekends, with the only deadline being 12 hours after the fourth theme has been announced. Crunchcon High Octane, in a similar vein, presents participants with eight (8) themes spread across four Saturdays and four Sundays!
